Music at Cabrini

In this community where music is indeed a source of joy, our song is led by a variety of volunteer musicians, some in groups, many very eager for new members.  There is room for any level of commitment, almost any instrument, and almost any level of talent!  Musicians set their own rehearsal times and choose music, with some guidance.

Musicians of all ages and all experience levels are welcome at St. Frances Cabrini. You may participate as a member of a regular music ensemble at weekly liturgies, as part of a larger vocal or instrumental group for holidays and special events, or in one of Cabrini's many special groups.

If you are interested in learning more about how to get involved, contact the Cabrini office, speak to one of Cabrini's music coordinators (Sue Jendro and Diane Pietrs), or visit with any liturgical musician immediately following Mass.

Musical Groups at Cabrini

Weekly Mass Musical Leadership

All musical groups at St. Frances Cabrini are made up of volunteer musicians. Presently, a dozen different groups lead music at Mass, each bringing its own musical style to the Liturgy of the Word. Representatives of each group and Cabrini's Music Coordinators meet 3 times per year to determine singing dates for the upcoming season.
Music Coordinators maintain the singing schedule, arrange for musical training opportunities and meetings, facilitate necessary music-related purchases, and lead seasonal holiday Mass choirs. Community members interested in being part of a weekly music group may contact a music coordinator (Sue Jendro and Diane Pietrs), contact the office for a list of music leaders, or talk with any group after Mass.

Children's Choir

The Cabrini Children's Choir allows children in grades K-6 to share more fully in service ministry at Cabrini liturgies and community events. children's choir rehearsalA highlight of each fall season is the day-long Fabulous Fall Fun workshop. At the workshop, current and prospective choristers come together at the church to sing, play bells and percussion instruments, work with one of Cabrini's movement ministers, sing a selection at 5 p.m. Mass, and enjoy pizza and a campfire.

Youth Musicians

Cabrini's 7-12 Youth Musicians ensemble offers a venue for older Cabrini students to share their musical talents with the community.  The ensemble is open to students in grades 7-12 and others by special request.  The group leads music at liturgies 5-6 times per year. Adult musicians mentor the group, but the student members have an active role in music selection and arrangement, and assume leadership during liturgy.

The 7-12 Youth Musicians welcome vocal and instrumental participants at all skill levels. For more information, please contact Jacki Betsworth or Chris Kosowski or email music@cabrinimn.org.

Holiday Choirs

For those who prefer to limit their musical participation to special seasons and holidays, Cabrini offers several "all welcome" liturgical opportunities each year, including Christmas liturgies, the Easter vigil, and the annual outdoor Mass in September.  Rehearsal announcements are posted in the bulletin and on the church calendar.

Vocal and instrumental musicians of all ages and skill levels are welcome. For more information, contact one of Cabrini's music coordinators (Sue Jendro and Diane Pietrs) or the office.
