Keeping Our Facilities Safe and in Working Order

The Plant and Maintenance Committee

Scope of Responsibilities

The Plant and Maintenance Committee “shall be concerned with preserving the safety of occupants, maintaining the value of .the church plant and enhancing the appearance of [the] property.  These are the defined goals and work of the Committee, approved by the Parish Council in December 17, 2008.  Underlying these overarching goals, is Cabrini’s self-description of having our “doors [open] to all” – see Who We Are. We have been and are consciously aware of making accommodations for as widely diversified a membership as possible.

“In general, the Committee will be responsible for all repairs, maintenance and capital improvements to building, equipment and grounds as approved by Parish Council, and in cooperation with Administration.”  To undertake these mandated responsibilities, the Committee initially identifies the possible projects and tasks.  It does this through a systematic walk-through done annually, through reports of problems from the Parish staff, and through reports and suggestions from the Cabrini Community. If you, as a member of the Community, notice anything that you think should be brought to the attention of the Committee, please fill out and submit this form.

The Committee then analyzes each identified item to determine appropriateness; urgency and timing; series of work needed (from researching to deciding on the product and the contractor); needed workforce, what and who; approximate costs and making the budget requests; and anything else necessary to see a project through.  Big-ticket items ($2,500 or more) go through a complex process, and are paid out from capital improvement funds. If you are curious what these big-ticket projects are, check out this list.  Small and clearly maintenance items are either worked on by the Committee members or paid out of the Parish maintenance budget.  Projects and tasks are worked on as needed throughout the year.  However, the Committee also comes together for several hours and for whole days to get through multiple projects/tasks at any one time during clean-up and fix-up days.

Membership and Meetings

The Committee holds regular monthly meetings, currently the first Tuesday of each month. It may hold special meetings as needed, for example, the meetings with the Environment Group on the improved lighting of the worship space.

The Committee is composed of volunteers from the Community who ideally would represent a wide variety of skills and interests. The current roster consists of Loren Flicker, Rollie Gates, Jerry Huck, Lou LaPierre, Bill Rush, Mila Rush (chair), Tim Spanier, and Bob Stoessel. The Parish Administrator serves on an ex officio capacity.  If you are interested in possibly becoming a member of the Committee, please fill out and submit this form.

Participation in the 2011-2013 Visioning Project

The Committee submitted two strategic objectives, both of which were accepted by the Council. They are:
1) To enhance disabled parking, transfer, and access to the building.
2) To increase the technological capability of the Cabrini community.
