For these programs contact Carol Dittberner, 612-339-3023 ext.112 or carol@cabrinimn.org.
The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd is a faith formation method based on Montessori principles. The “atrium” is a room that is especially prepared for children and contains the various articles of liturgy (Mass, Baptism, sacraments, prayer) and scripture materials (Good Shepherd, True Vine, Moral Parables, Infancy Narratives, and so on).
The Good Shepherd Atrium is in great need of catechists. We have new courses beginning in September for both the preschool and elementary levels. Please consider joining our work with the children. Formation courses (training) are paid for by the parish in exchange for a two year commitment.

FIRST COMMUNION
Preparation for the First Communion is done in the spring of the year. Children are required to be part of the weekly atrium program during the year that they plan to celebrate this Sacrament. On the Registration Form place a check mark by First Communion under Sacrament Preparation. A separate Sacrament registration form will then be sent to interested families in December. The fee for First Communion Preparation is $90.00. Contact: Carol Dittberner, 612-339-3023, ext. 112. carol@cabrinimn.org.

BAPTISM
Registration for Baptism is handled by Peggy Doerrie, Office Coordinator, 612-339-3023 ext. 110 or office@cabrinimn.org.
Infant Baptisms are celebrated during Mass and held four times a year. Baptism preparation for infants is done by our Baptism Preparation Team. Baptism preparation for older children is done through Carol Dittberner. Adults seeking baptism should contact Chris Kosowski.

MIDDLE SCHOOL / HIGH SCHOOL / YOUTH

For these programs contact Joe White, 612-339-3023 ext.114 or joe@cabrinimn.org.

MIDDLE SCHOOL - GRADES 5th—8th
Wednesdays 6:30-8:00 pm (Classes Begin Wednesday, September 26, 2012)
Our students in Grades 5 through 8 will explore a variety of prayer and liturgical experiences centering around the seasons of our Church Year, with special emphasis on Advent and Lent. These are wonderful opportunities for our young people to experience first hand the cycles of our liturgical calendar and include five community evenings designed as intergenerational and family friendly events.  In the classroom, our 5th and 6th graders will be studying the Old Testament, while our 7th and 8th graders will study the Gospels and Contemporary Discipleship. All four groups will spend time discussing the Sunday readings, and will participate in ongoing service and outreach opportunities throughout the year.

CHILDREN’S CHOIR - Grades 1st—6th

Contact Liz Spolyar 612-724-1409 or liz@spolyar.com
Join the fun in sharing music for Mass several times throughout the year. Rehearsal times will be determined at the convenience of the families. The year begins with the Fabulous Fall Fun Workshop, a special day around music, instruments and friendship, ending at the Cabrini camp fire.

HIGH SCHOOL - GRADES 9th—12th

Currently we are exploring some joint High School/Youth opportunities with Prospect Park United Methodist Church. Our two churches have a long standing history of collaboration, and this is one more way that we will be able to provide programs that will benefit both communities. Things are still in the planning stages and we hope to have more information on this in the next few weeks – be watching for that! We will also continue to provide Parish offerings for our young people such as 7th-12th Grade music Group, service opportunities, and liturgical involvement.

CONFIRMATION
(Begins With An Information Evening On September 15, 2012)
This is a “Confirmation year” for Cabrini. All Freshmen, Sophomores, and any older students who have not yet been Confirmed are invited to be a part of this program. We are making a change with the Confirmation program this year and will be starting a week earlier with a required overnight retreat weekend on September 21/22. The program itself will consist of a 6-week course on Jesus, beginning and ending retreat weekends, and a number of activities for these young people and their sponsors to take part in. Confirmation is scheduled for Saturday, May 11, at 10:00 AM at the Basilica of St. Mary in Minneapolis. Confirmation registration forms are available at the church entrances or you can contact Joe to obtain one.

WHOLE COMMUNITY / ADULT AND FAMILY EDUCATION

CABRINI COMMUNITY EVENINGS
For these events contact Joe White, 612-339-3023 ext.114 or joe@cabrinimn.org.
Throughout the year we will be offering five Cabrini Community Evenings centering around the liturgical calendar:
  • All Saints/All Souls – October 24, 2012
  • Advent – November 28, 2012
  • Epiphany – January 9, 2013
  • Lent – February 6, 2013
  • Pentecost – May 15, 2013
Please join us for evenings of prayer, discussion and hands on projects that are designed to bring our liturgical calendar alive. The Epiphany and Lent evenings also include a potluck dinner. These sessions are intergenerational family friendly events and are open to the entire parish. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

PARISH ADULT EDUCATION
For these events contact Dave Schultz, Education Committee, 612-708-1924 or marydaves@mac.com.
Each of us is called to continue growing in faith throughout our lives, and the Education Committee seeks to be one source of deeper reflection and understanding of what it means to be faithful people in our daily lives. Inspired by the concept of the Church as the “People of God” introduced in Lumen Gentium, one of the central documents of the Second Vatican Council, the Education Committee will provide opportunities for community members to explore this theme, through speakers, educational events, written reflections, shared readings, and times to think and discuss together.
Topics will include:
  • People of God: A historical context from lumen gentium
  • Laity: Big C little c church
  • Call to holiness
  • Celebration
We hope a spirit of exploration over the next year about what it means for us to be “People of God” can enrich and deepen our life together as a faith community. We look forward to exploring and growing in faith with you!

ENTRYWAY / RCIA
For these programs contact Chris Kosowski, 612-339-3023 ext. 115 or chris@cabrinimn.org.
THE ENTRYWAY GROUP “Is this just for people wanting to join the Church?” some ask. No, it is for EVERYONE. The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process which includes ritual and prayer, faith sharing and learning, lived experience and reflection. Through this process, unbaptized adults, together with a supportive faith community, experience catechesis and celebrate the Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation, and Communion. Others, baptized in another Christian faith prepare to be received into the Church. Some are active Catholics who seek a deeper understanding and integration of their faith and their daily lives. Still others wish to take another look after a time away. For all it offers a safe and accepting place to take on some of the more challenging faith and life questions that we are faced with. ALL ARE WELCOME!

The group meets about twice a month on Tuesdays at 7:00 pm, October through May. Bookmark schedules will be available in early fall. Several Cabrini members serve as discussion leaders, in a friendly, informal process, rooted in the Scripture stories of the upcoming Sunday. Some prayer and ritual, a time for questions, handouts (reading materials), and refreshments are included as well. ALL are welcome at any or all of the sessions.
